LONDON MARATHON

Sunday, 23rd April 2017

Every year, approximately 38,000 people run the 26.2 miles (42.2 km) of the marathon through the streets of London. The route runs through the south of the Thames and then along the north bank after crossing the bridge of the Tower. From Greenwich and Blackheath to Buckingham Palace, the corridors pass through the famous landmarks of the capital, such as the EDF Energy London Eye and the Tower of London. With such an immense and impressive landscape, it is not surprising that the organizers have called it "the historic race for London".

If you are not into running, you can join the cheering crowds who line the route to shout encouragement to long-distance runners of all abilities. The biggest crowds tend to gather at Tower Bridge and Embankment and the emotional finish line in front of Buckingham Palace.

THE BOAT RACE

Sunday, April 2nd, 2017

The Boat Race is a set of annual rowing races between the Oxford University Boat Club and the Cambridge University Boat Club, rowed between eights on the River Thames in London, England. For spectators, there's a great view - and some great pubs - around the north side of the Thames. Alternatively, you might like to watch from near the start at Putney Bridge, where the big screens on both banks allow spectators to monitor the race as it heads its way around the first bend. The event now attracts around 250,000 spectators to southwest London every year. The women's race is up first at 4.35pm, followed by the men's race an hour later at 5.35pm.
